SAAM (Self Aligning Actuating Mold)
Utilizing Low Pressure For Substantial Cost Savings
What is a SAAM?
SAAMs are a completely portable, turn-key, production molding system, and require no special site preparation.
SAAMs can be made as "Dedicated" or as "Platen" systems. The dedicated version incorporates the tool into the SAAM itself, while the Platen version allows for interchangeable tooling.
Because SAAMs operate at low pressures (as low as 100 psi) they are able to incorporate Fabricated Steel Tooling instead of more expensive tooling normally required by conventional SMC environments.
SAAM systems coupled with LPMC material, offer significant cost savings along with other benefits:
For RTM and Open Mold Operations the benefits are:
Improved dimensional consistency and material properties
Reduced cycle times and secondary operations
Waste reduction of between 15 and 25% 95% reduction of VOCs vs. Open Molding
PRC has seen production increase by 600% in some applications vs. RTM
Ability to mold net size parts A user-friendly process, with minimal operator training Improved surface finish (both surfaces) Completely portable, turn-key, production molding system, with no special site preparation
For Traditional SMC Operations using LPMC, the benefits are:
Lower tooling and tool maintenance costs
An ability to mold larger surface area parts in existing presses
Longer compound shelf life or molding window
Better flow and rib fill
Ability to use more elaborate inserts
